How to change default in Safari/Firefox on a Mac?

I've tried just changing the preferences, but it doesn't seem to work. Anyone have any suggestion? How to change default in Safari/Firefox on a Mac?
Your question is a bit vague. What are you changing specifically? Are you asking how to make FireFox your default internet browser instead of Safari?

If so, the latest FireFox actually checks to see if it is your default browser. If not, there is a check box in the FireFox preference.

Otherwise, open Safari. Go to Preferences and open the General Tab and if you have FireFox installed, just simply select FireFox.

Good luck and I hope this helps.
