How to change default email program?

So that when I click an email link, Gmail would appear instead of Outlook Express or sometimes Hotmail. How to change default email program?
You can designate Gmail as your default 'mailto' handler. This means that when you click on any hyperlinked email address, a Gmail compose window will open so you can send a message to that address from Gmail.

To do so in Windows:

Download the Gmail Notifier.

Right-click the Notifier icon in your system tray, and select 'Options.'

Check the box next to 'Use Gmail for internet mailto: links.'

Click 'OK.'

If you decide later that you don't want to use Gmail as your default email application, simply uncheck the box.

And, if you're using a Mac, you can set your default 'mailto' handler by going to 'Settings,' and selecting an email program from the 'Default Email Program:' drop-down menu. How to change default email program?
It depends on your operating system. In (at least) Windows XP and 2000, the easiest way is to click on start and find ';Set program access and defaults.'; You can also get there by entering the control panel and choosing the Add/Remove programs icon---The ';set program access and defaults'; icon is on the bottom left. Once you're there, all available mail programs will be shown, and you just have to choose which one and click ';OK.'; There are other ways, this is just the easiest I know of.
