How do I change default currency symbol in Excel? Right now a click on $ symbol results in British pounds :-(?

I know you can always highlight a block of data and format into currency with appropriate currency symbol ($), but how to change the default currency symbol once and for all so that a click on $ will turn all data into $ amounts? go to control panel, regional and language option, open it and check the currency field is using $ or pound, change it to $ if it is not, click ok and reboot pc, it should work using $ then.How do I change default currency symbol in Excel? Select the affected cells, then right click and choose format cells. Change the symbol to the desired one.
