How do i change default drives?

everytime i download something and install it my computer wants to put it in the c drive but i want programs and whatnot in my d drive cause it has more room. any way to do this? How do i change default drives?
go to start menu and right click on my computer %26gt; manage %26gt; disc management

sorry it has been a while

actually this is the way:

After you back up your registry, this is how you can change this default location.

1. Navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\ Windows\ CurrentVersion

2. Find ProgramFilesDir whose default should be C:\Program Files

3. Change this to whatever directory you wish. I changed it to D:\Program Files for example.

Remember you have to reboot for your changes to show. How do i change default drives?
no but some programs %26lt;rare%26gt; will give you a option

you should resize the c partition using something like partition magic , norton ghost....
Most programs will automatically download to your ';system'; drive. It is faster for an operating system on a drive to access data on that same drive. There usually is a way to do what you are asking but it will slow your system to the point that it will be almost unusable.

I suggest putting your system ';windows OS drive'; on your lager disk. You can use Norton utilities (Norton ghost) to do this.
You could try to move stuff from your C: drive to the D: drive, to free up some space. Or you could get a bigger drive and copy the C: drive to it and install it as your C: drive.
Here's how to do it with Mozilla Firefox:

1. Click the Tools-%26gt;Options menu item.

2. Click the Main page.

3. Under Downloads, click the Save Files To radio button.

4. Click Browse.

5. Pick a directory on D:.

6. OK out of everything.

Hope that helps.
Default Drive for Windows is the 'c' drive, and programs also install on the 'c' drive (usually).

If you change the location of this folder, you will have to manually change the filepath of all newly installed programs; a long contract with alphabet soup as a result...probably not a good idea.

Data, on the other hand can be defaulted to another drive with the correct filepath assignment.

Better to leave the Windows %26amp; Programs where they are, just transfer the other 'stuff'.
Their information of changing the default director for c:\program files is correct but, I would advise just changing the location when you install a program. Usually there is an advanced install option (on most decient software that is) and you can select exactly where you want it...drive and all.
